"Science Has Healed Far More Than Religion Ever Did" - Examined

De Rand Mi Hoo At that cruel contest for the disabled at the pool of Bethesda, Jesus healed one. Just one! Explain that on your miraculous smart phone science has produced. Science has healed far more than religion ever did. Reply Share 23h Mark Rego Monteiro De Rand Well, frankly, just taking those categories at face value for the moment and tweaking to a friendly competition, there´s going to be undercounting in a few ways. Medical science just found out in recent years that there are preventable deaths in rather uncomfortable numbers, such as 200,000 to 400,000 per year in the US, and comparable percentages in Europe, I think is a just assessment of reports. And materialist bias attempting to disqualify spiritual healing testimonies, even medically attested medically impossible ones with spiritual religious testimony. Along with misguided interpretations of the medical expression "spontaneous remission." And then we come to the underlying issue. Who made "science" anyway, and what is its actual significance? What is the legitimacy of Descartes´ mind-body split and desacralized mechanization, and secularization, of Christian University-based philosophy? The prevailing assumption of a lawful creation wasn´t ancient Greek. Historian James Hannam clarifies that they were seeking the purpose of physical phenomena. We understand even the mechanicist understanding of a lawful physical reality because of the monk Thomas Aquinas´ brilliant integrative philosophical approach represented in how he took Aristotle´s esoteric First Cause of a co-eternal god and Universe. Aquinas noted arguments with the absurdity of infinite regress, and the consequent retrospective causal logic of a creation event as asserted in Jesus´ heritage resources. Pasteurized organic grape juice is still made by growing grapes in manure rich dirt with sunshine. Science is a runaway who has changed its name even from scientific natural philosophy, and that includes acknowledging that all modern philosophy with empiricism was originally a Christian spiritual practice. Now we are free of all church doctrines, but not the empirical and spiritual-religious philosophical truth included in historical sociology and the current demands of unsustainable lifestyles. Reply Share 13m Mi Hoo De Rand Science never approaches what Jesus can do in the lives of those who trust in Him. Healing the sick is not the good news. "an image of 3 people, people sitting and text that says 'science has replaced the need for religion it's not scientific to talk about meaning, commitment, integrity, or love'" Reply Share 18h De Rand Mi Hoo Healing the sick is not the good news!?! Try this -"Joy comes from God. From joy all beings come and unto joy they all return." (The Upanishads) Billions NOT burning in hell - that is good news. So are people getting healed, by whatever method, medical science being by far the most effective. Be blessed. Reply Share 18hEdited Mark Rego Monteiro De Rand Uh, there´s a little detail your kind of position leaves out. "Medical science" is actually all part of modernizing Jesus´ core and causal empirical legacy. That includes structured pluralism as the modernized development of Jesus two loving Commandments for Moses et al and God with no 2 "Love thy neighbor as thyself." I was raised atheist humanist, and never got misdirected by church doctrines, and so have just "followed the evidence" through my multidisciplinary base in philosophical knowledge in Bio Anthropology and History of Science. That´s "evidence" in terms of empirical philosophical disciplines that includes the full range of University-based philosophical scholarship, not just "science." The opposition of "science" and "religion" is a misdirected polarization based on the overemphasis on "science", ie scientific natural philosophy and the extreme sensitivity of human issues in advancing empirical psychosocial philosophical knowledge and applying it. The resistance or reluctance of doctrinal church institutions reflects what? Complex commitments and psychosocial tendencies. Overvaluing medical science and related materialism? The same, including counteracting, adequately or excessively, perceived and real forms of church institutional authority that have been misused and abused to one degree or another. What is the meaning of ideological forms of materialism? UN human rights and sustainability has given us a kind of looming deadline from the scientific community in terms of ecosystemic sustainability. Psychosocial issues are in fact embedded in that, with toxic and disempowering socioeconomic inequality with pro-rich anti-social business profiteer driven policies, including right wing and complacent theologies. Whatever is necessary to convey the philosophical truth in these perspectives is suggested by my own influences in physicist Fritjof Capra´s pursuit of multidisciplinary and psychosocial extensions of Systems Theory, to which he has added "of Life" and Karen Armstrong´s historical insights in spiritual-religiously informed theistic scholarship. As you appreciate the Upanishads, and we are here at Cont. Mystics, Jesus´ legacy extends to a globalized system that has also modernized to structural pluralism. University-based secularized Christian foundations for spiritual-religious pluralism and its various levels and components. The truth of Jesus as the only way, and the all-embracing power of love, with Christian hypocrisy now faced with the spiritual-religious insights of other spiritual-religious traditions, just as Jesus´ loving standard of integrity in Christian culture has influenced globalized Christianity enough in secularized institutions in UN human rights and sustainability. Stay kind, stay curious, stay connected to Divine Love.
